# Gestural

An annotation which describes the communicative contribution of intentional bodily action in face-to-face spoken or signed language.

In signed languages gestures are in the same modality as signs. In both signed and spoken languages gestures are not, strictly speaking, language-specific so are not part of a conventional lexicon. However, some gesture types may be shared across larger cultural groupings that include both speakers and signers.\
