# AuthorizationByInvitation

A data steward or administrator is expected to use an access control system to invite users, for example participants, collaborators or students.

This **AuthorizationWorkflow** contrasts with [AuthorizationByApplication](/metadata-for-language-data/defined-terms/authorizationbyapplication.md) in that the process is initiated by the data steward or custodian.
