# AuthorizationByApplication

Users may apply for a license via some workflow, such as a form, with the decision being made by a DataSteward or their delegate about whether to grant the license.

This **AuthorizationWorkflow** contrasts with [AuthorizationByInvitation](/metadata-for-language-data/defined-terms/authorizationbyinvitation.md) in that the process is initiated by the data user.
