# CollectionEvent

A description of an event at which [PrimaryMaterial ](https://ldaca.gitbook.io/metadata-for-language-data/defined-terms/primaryresource)was captured, e.g. as video or audio.\
An event with a start and end time during which data are gathered from participants, or from other materials

IMDI uses Session as a basic unit for organising data collections, and this Class is similar to the IMDI concept. The IMDI manual defines a session as: "one unit having the same overall content, the same set of participants, and the same location and time, e.g., one elicitation session on topic X, or one folktale, or one ‘matching game’." ([IMDI Editor v1.5, Manual](https://www.mpi.nl/tools/imdieditor/IMDI_Editor_Manual_1_5.pdf) p11) An IMDI **session** is defined on the basis of coherence of content, whereas our **CollectionEvent** is defined on the basis of temporal coherence. (Note, also, that we use [Session ](https://ldaca.gitbook.io/metadata-for-language-data/defined-terms/session)but in a different way.)

This class is a subclass of [schema:Event](https://schema.org/Event) and [schema:CreateAction](https://schema.org/CreateAction).

This class will have a [`collectionEventType`](https://ldaca.gitbook.io/metadata-for-language-data/properties/collectioneventtype) as a property.
